The International Journal of English Literature and Social Sciences (IJELS) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and originality. All manuscripts submitted to the journal must represent original scholarly work and must appropriately acknowledge the ideas, words, data, findings, and other intellectual contributions of others.

Plagiarism, in any form, is considered a serious violation of publication ethics. Authors are responsible for ensuring that their submitted manuscripts are original, properly referenced, and free from any form of unattributed reproduction or misappropriation of intellectual work.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism refers to presenting another person's words, ideas, concepts, data, research findings, images, tables, figures, or other intellectual material as one's own without appropriate acknowledgment. It may occur through direct copying, inadequate paraphrasing, omission of citations, or inappropriate reuse of previously published material.

Plagiarism Screening

All manuscripts submitted to IJELS may be subjected to plagiarism and similarity screening using appropriate plagiarism-detection software. Similarity screening may be conducted during the initial editorial assessment, peer-review process, or at any stage when concerns regarding originality arise.

A similarity percentage alone does not establish plagiarism. The editorial team evaluates the nature, source, context, and extent of the identified similarities. Properly cited quotations, references, commonly used technical expressions, and other legitimate similarities may contribute to a similarity score without constituting plagiarism.

Author Responsibilities

Authors must ensure that all sources used in their manuscript are appropriately acknowledged. Direct quotations must be clearly identified and cited, while paraphrased ideas and previously published findings must also be properly referenced.

Authors are also responsible for obtaining appropriate permission for copyrighted material wherever required and for ensuring that figures, tables, images, datasets, and other third-party materials are used lawfully and with proper attribution.

Self-Plagiarism and Redundant Publication

Authors must not substantially reproduce their own previously published work without appropriate citation, disclosure, and justification. Reuse of substantial portions of previously published text, data, figures, tables, or findings without proper acknowledgment may constitute self-plagiarism or redundant publication.

Manuscripts submitted to IJELS should not simultaneously be under consideration by another journal. Authors must disclose any previous publications, conference papers, preprints, or related manuscripts that substantially overlap with the submitted work.

Action in Cases of Plagiarism

If plagiarism or significant unattributed similarity is identified before publication, IJELS may request clarification or revision from the authors, reject the manuscript, or take other appropriate editorial action depending on the seriousness of the matter.

If plagiarism is identified after publication, the journal may investigate the matter and, where appropriate, publish a correction, expression of concern, retraction, or other editorial notice. The journal may also notify the relevant institution or authority when circumstances warrant such action.
