Abstract:
This article attempts to analyse and comment upon one of the most notable stylistic features of Henry James’s novels, i. e. the repetition. It is analysed in more detail on four levels: lexical level, grammatical level, level of context and cohesion, and phonological level. It briefly tries to explain how the use of different types of repetitions affect the reader. The analysis is based on three novels: The Portrait of a Lady, The American and The Wings of the Dove.
